FOCUS (Faribault Off Campus Utilizing Skills)
A Collaboration of Northfield and Faribault School Districts & Rice County Social Services
FOCUS is a level four program for special needs students serving both the Northfield and the Faribault School District located in Faribault, MN. It is an evolution of the former Off Campus Program. Focus serves special needs students in grades 5-12. Academics are modified to meet the individual needs of each learner. Behavioral and social skills are integrated in a highly structured daily schedule. FOCUS accepts each student where they are and supports them to reach their full potential. The program works in partnership with parents, educators, social services, probation and other professionals to serve special needs students.
Students are expected to work hard, set goals, learn how to access and utilize information, know how to work independently and as a member of a group, have good attendance, be a good citizen, respect the rights and needs of others, develop good study skills and to integrate those universal skills to the world outside of school.
• stabilize each child’s emotional and behavioral status
• teach new coping skills
• identify interventions and accommodations that help students be successful
• teach appropriate social skills
• facilitate reintegration to a less restrictive learning environment
We believe that students with special needs are capable of being good citizens when adults are willing to nurture, support and meet their unique needs.
