RE:                  Restrictive Procedures Training

According to Minnesota Statute, restrictive procedures may be used only by a licensed special education teacher, school social worker, school psychologist, or paraprofessional, who has completed a restrictive procedures training program.  While the statute describes the type of training program, it does not describe the frequency at which staff need to be trained.  In the past, Faribault Public Schools has provided training annually in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI).  From this point forward, Faribault Public Schools will follow the restrictive procedures training schedule described below:

New special education staff will be provided a full (8 hour) training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention within the first 6 months of their employment.

Current special education staff will be provided a full (8 hour) training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention either during the summer of 2016 or the summer of 2017 (because CPI has updated their course, Faribault Public Schools is requiring staff to be trained with the new material within 2 years).

Once special education staff has been fully trained in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, they will receive a refresher (4 hour) training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention every second year and a full (8 hour) training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention every fourth year.
