Welcome to our Family Engagement page! Our names are Abdi Abdullahi, Melody Suite, and Val Svenby and we are Family Literacy Specialists at Faribault Public Schools. Our goal is to build strong school and family partnerships.
We believe that family engagement is critical to student success. Research shows that strong school and family partnerships are associated with increased academic, attendance, and behavioral outcomes for students. Families play a role in their child’s education by communicating high expectations, monitoring student progress, supporting learning at home, guiding their child’s education, and advocating for their child.
As Family Literacy Specialists, we collaborate with staff and families to create relevant and meaningful literacy and engagement opportunities for early childhood through twelfth grade. On our webpage, you will find a collection of resources that will help you navigate and support your child’s learning and development.
We want all families to receive a high quality and equitable education for their children regardless of their social, cultural or economic background. We strive to ensure that every family feels connected, valued, and welcome at Faribault Public Schools. Therefore, we are committed to offering all of our literacy and engagement opportunities in multiple languages to meet the linguistic and cultural diversity of our families.
Please contact us if you have any questions.
In this section, you will find recordings of read alouds for elementary school-aged children. The read alouds will be accompanied by questions you can ask your child or activities you can complete together that promote reading comprehension, literacy skills, and creativity.
