Starting kindergarten is a milestone filled with excitement for both children and their families. At Faribault Public Schools, we are dedicated to partnering with families to ensure a seamless transition to elementary school. We believe that a child's success in school relies on the support of their families, teachers, and the broader community. That's why we are committed to harnessing these resources to provide a high-quality educational experience that is tailored to meet the unique needs of each child. You can register your child online or by visiting any school office, Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Information required to complete the enrollment process

A valid email address. If you do not have an email address visit any of our school offices to enroll.
Birth certificate or official certificate of age.
Immunizations records.
Last School Attended: name, address, telephone, and email or fax number if applicable OR student Records if you have them.

KINDERGARTEN ENROLLMENT STEPS

STEP 1: Kindergarten Enrollment Checklist

In order to register for kindergarten, you will need the following:

A valid email address - If you do not have an email address visit any of our school offices to enroll.

Birth certificate, passport or official certificate of child’s age
Immunization records - This can be uploaded during registration or you can include the name and phone number of your child’s health care provider.
Early Childhood Screening Record - Your child must complete Early Childhood Screening before starting kindergarten. Please visit the following page to learn more and sign up!

If you need assistance filling out the online registration form, please stop by any elementary school office, Monday-Friday 8:00am-3:30pm. For assistance during the summer, visit the district office at 710 17th St. SW.

Keep in mind that your child is transitioning and so are you! Here are some tips to prepare for the transition:

Visit Your Child’s School

Spend some time on the playground or walk or drive by the school. Join us for our summer programming such as I Love to Read and Kindergarten Stay & Plays. More information and dates coming soon!

Talk With Your Child about School

Let your child ask questions and take time to answer them.
Be aware of their concerns
Remain positive and enthusiastic about all of the exciting things in store for your child in kindergarten!

Set Up a Regular Routine

Get your child and family used to waking up in the morning, getting ready and going somewhere, so that it does not cause stress once school begins. Sleep is very important. Set up bedtime routines so that your child will get enough rest. Kindergarten children need 10-12 hours of sleep each night.

Help Your Child Be Independent

Help your child practice getting their coat on and off.
Practice buttoning and zipping clothing and putting shoes on and taking them off
Encourage your child to use the bathroom, wash their hands and get dressed by themselves.

School Readiness Isn’t Just About Academics

Some of the most important skills that children can have when they begin kindergarten are social-emotional skills-like paying attention to directions, sharing with peers and following directions.

STEP 4: Explore Before and After School Child Care Options

Kids World is the Faribault Public Schools School Age Care Program. The goal of our program is to provide a relaxed, enriched and safe environment where children are encouraged to pursue their personal interests, develop friendships and grow. Kids World has 3 locations: McKinley, Jefferson and Roosevelt.
