Home Activities

Early Childhood

Families can encourage a love of reading by incorporating reading into their children’s daily routines and connecting reading to their favorite activities, such as art, music, games, and STEM. Listen to the read aloud below, and then try the activities on the right to have fun reading and playing with words!

Middle School

Families can invigorate the love for books at home by reading books together and/or talking about books they have read. The video below is a First Chapter read aloud of the book A Wrinkle in Time. Attached on the right are additional resources to support your reading experience and inspire conversations at home.

High School

Families can encourage reading consistently by finding materials they enjoy reading, reading together, and having discussion about the deeper meaning behind the text. The video below is a deeper dive into the age-old discussion about “Books vs Movies''. After watching the video, take a moment to discuss with the people at home a book or a movie that has stuck with you. We invite you to try this fun activity, which will require you to either watch the movie adaptation of your favorite book or to read the book your favorite movie is inspired by. Attached on the right are the necessary resources for an opportunity to have meaningful discussions tied to reading! (Included is a list of book titles and their respective movie adaptations)
