Closings & Alerts

The decision to keep schools open or closed during winter weather is made with the well-being and safety of our students and families in mind. We take into consideration student’s time outside walking to school or waiting at the bus stop. The decision to delay, release early or close schools is made from weighing several factors: If road conditions and bus travel is unsafe -roads are driven and checked by bus company and school personnel during inclement weather.

During winter season, always be sure to dress your child warmly for the bus stop or the walk to school. Buses may occasionally be delayed with bus pick-up times due to weather conditions and bus stops may need to be modified depending on road conditions in your area.

Decisions to close or delay schools will be made as soon as possible. Please look for announcements the day before a winter storm or by 6:00 a.m. the day of the closing or delay of school. Please check the notification sources listed below.

Online Learning / E-Learning

School Closing Procedure

If school is closed/cancelled

All K-12 schools are closed.
All sport events and after school activities are cancelled.
Kids World Program is closed.
McKinley Early Childhood Center program is closed.
Community Education Classes are cancelled.
Adult Basic Ed Program is closed.

If there is a two-hour delayed start

All K-12 schools will start exactly two hours later.
Buses will run two hours later.

Kids World Program

All Kids World sites will be open 2 hours late starting at 8:30 a.m.

McKinley Early Childhood Center

AM pre-school cancelled, ECFE classes will start exactly two hours later.

Community Education

Morning classes are cancelled but evening classes will be held.

Adult Basic Ed Program

Morning classes are cancelled but evening classes will be held.

If school is dismissed early

All K-12 students will be released at designated release time.
All afternoon and evening sport events and school activities are cancelled.

Kids World Program

There will be afternoon Kids World at each site for 1 hour after school closes.
We will be open for early closes with the understanding that parents will pick their child/children up as soon as possible and sites will close 1 hour after school closes.

McKinley Early Childhood Center

PM pre-school cancelled, ECFE classes will end at designated release time.

Community Education

Classes are cancelled.

Adult Basic Ed Program

Classes are cancelled and building is closed.

Online Learning / E-Learning

Online Learning/E-Learning Day procedure:

Please check your student’s SeeSaw or Schoology account for assignments and additional communications from teachers. Teachers will do their best to upload assignments as soon as possible. We ask that teachers post assignments by 10:00 a.m. and are accessible to students and parents from 10:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. If your student needs tech assistance from home today, please follow our Tech Help procedure.

School day:

School buildings are closed, there will be no in-person classes. Elementary and pre-k students should check their take home folders or binders for e-learning work that teachers have given to students in advance. Middle school and high school students should log into their Schoology accounts from home for their assignments for the day.
Kids World child care is canceled/closed.
All daytime and after school Community Education programs including Community School and Falcons After School are canceled/closed.
Adult Basic Education classes are canceled.

After school activities:

All afterschool programs, sports, and activities are canceled.

(Please note: E-learning/online learning days count as instructional days and do not require extended school year make-up-days.)
