Health Services

District health services is committed to providing the services needed so that our students are healthy, safe and ready to learn, including: 

• Promoting a safe school environment
• Monitoring immunization status of students
• Managing health plans for students with health conditions
• Providing first aid and emergency care to students and staff
• Administering medication as ordered by a licensed prescriber
• Maintaining health service records
• Implementing screening programs
• Surveilling communicable diseases
   

Students will be screened to identify potential vision or hearing concerns. The screenings are not intended to replace professional examinations. Students in first and third grades will have a vision and hearing screening. Students in fifth and seventh grade will have a vision screening only. Vision and hearing screenings will also be performed by parent/caregiver/staff request.

If you wish your student to be excluded from either or both of these screenings, please notify your student’s school health office at the beginning of every school year. Parents/Caregivers will be notified through a referral process if the student does not pass either screening. ILLNESS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY
Students who become ill during the school day are to report to the Health Office.  If it is necessary for a student to be sent home, the health office staff will inform and secure permission from a parent, guardian, or parent authorized person to release them from school.
CALLING IN YOUR CHILD'S ABSCENCE
Please call your child's attendance line to report their absences including the reason and symptoms that are keeping them home.

WHEN TO KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME
A child should stay home if:

• They have a fever of 100 degrees or higher.
• They have been vomiting or have diarrhea.
• They are weak, have body aches or not acting like themselves, making it difficult for them to participate in school activities.
• They have a cough that disrupts normal activity or causes breathing problems.
• They have an undiagnosed rash.
• Has conjunctivitis (pink eye) with drainage AND fever.
• They have strep- should remain home until antibiotic medication has been taken for at least 12 hours.

A child may return to school when:

• Their fever has been gone for 24 hours without the use of medication.
• It has been 24 hours since their last episode of vomiting or diarrhea.
• Call the health office if your child:
• Is absent for 2 consecutive days due to illness
• Experienced a medical emergency
• Has a planned medical procedure
• Received any new medical diagnoses or medications

The School-Based Health Center (SBHC) provides accessible, high-quality healthcare services to students right at school. Our goal is to help students stay healthy, so they can focus on learning and thriving in the classroom.
